Nimble Design Jam!

To celebrate the release of the free Nimble Creator’s Kit I’m announcing the very first Nimble Design Jam! A chance for TTRPG creators to showcase their skills, get expert feedback, win prizes, and the opportunity to be published in upcoming Nimble projects.

What is the Design Jam?

The Nimble Design Jam is a community contest where writers can design and submit an original one-shot adventure for Nimble following the guidelines in the Creator’s Kit and the published adventures in the GM Guide.

Why Participate?

Here’s what’s in it for you:

• Paid Prizes: All winners will be compensated transparently and fairly for their work at an industry rate of $0.25 USD/word, and in addition:
  • 1st Place: Free Nimble Boxed Set, a 20% rate bonus, and a Nimble Design Jam Winner’s Badge.
  • 2nd Place: Free Nimble Book Set, and a Nimble Design Jam Winner’s Badge.
  • 3rd Place: A Nimble Design Jam Winner’s Badge.
• Credit: If your work is published in a future Nimble product, you’ll receive full writer/designer credit.
• Free Feedback & Grow the Nimble community: Submissions will receive constructive feedback either in writing or during a live review stream (time-permitting, depending on how many submissions are received!). Share your work with the Nimble community and work on your craft.

Submission Guidelines

Content: An one-shot adventure written specifically for this Design Jam and the Nimble system (800 to 1,000-word max).

• It must follow the Creator’s Kit guidelines and the structure of published adventures in the GM Guide. 
• You will be judged on the adventure WRITING only. NO layout, art, maps, monster design, etc. is required. 
  
• It should be for low to mid level heroes, and take place somewhere within the Nimble setting, the Valley of Hope.

Deadline: Friday, May 9th, 2025

Judging and Prizes

The judging panel will include myself and a handful of others in the community. We will evaluate entries based on:

• Is it FUN?
  • For the heroes. Does it offer meaningful choices? Does an interesting story unfold? Is it family friendly and capture the fantasy spirit?
  • For the GM? Is there an interesting "hook" that makes me want to read it and run it? Is it quick to prep? Does it require additional work for it to make sense and run smoothly? 
• Professionalism: Are there typos? Does the tone fit Nimble? Is it grossly offensive? Does it display understanding of the Nimble system,  adventure framework, and the Creator's Kit? Does it mesh well with the existing adventures and setting?

Prizes: Physical prizes are expected to ship in Q3 2025. If you live in a place with prohibitively expensive shipping (or you’d rather not receive any physical goods), other arrangements may be made (you can cover shipping, or a rate increase of 10% can be applied instead).

Terms and Conditions

• Your work must be your own, new, not previously published, and may not use AI.
• Your submission must be original and not infringe on existing copyrights.
• You retain all rights to your work. If chosen for publication, you will be compensated upon execution of a simple publication agreement.
• You may be requested to make changes based upon feedback prior to publishing.
• If published, the work will be included under the Nimble Creator’s License for others in the community to build off of.
