Nimble is for Creators

Interested in creating content using the Nimble rules? Great! Nimble has a wide-open 3rd-party license that makes it easy to create your own homebrew content for your own table or even to sell (and keep all of your profits!).

Feel free to use the core system and any of the other content from Nimble that you like—the only caveat, you can’t use the game’s art or logo (but you can use one of the Nimble compatible badged on your product if you like), and the product you produce has to be your own and not simply a copy/paste of my work or anyone else’s. Add some value to the community!

See the full license below (it’s super short and written in plain language) and the accompanying FAQ. Any additional questions? Let me know evan@nimblerpg.com

Nimble 3rd Party Creator License

Terms. You may create and publish original works based on or compatible with Nimble (the ‘System’) without Nimble Co.’s prior approval and retain all profits.

  • You may use and reference the Core Rules, Heroes, and Game Master’s Guide text in your original products (adventures, classes, subclasses, monsters, supplements, etc.). Copying large portions of text verbatim with little or no added value does not qualify as an original product. For additional FAQ see nimbleRPG.com/creators.
  • You may not use the System’s art or logo but may use the Nimble compatibility logo (nimbleRPG.com/creators).

Restrictions. Your product must not appear to be an official Nimble product or endorsed by Nimble Co. We are not liable for claims related to your product, and you will not bring legal claims against us.

Rights Reserved. Unless explicitly stated, this license does not grant copyright, moral, publicity, privacy, patent, or trademark rights. All other rights are reserved by Nimble Co.

Legal Terms. You agree to indemnify Nimble Co. and its affiliates from any claims or liabilities arising from your use of the System. This license may be terminated if you violate its terms. Upon termination, you must cease distribution of your product until the violation is resolved. This license is governed by Florida law. Disputes will be resolved in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida or state courts in Orange County, Florida. If a provision of this license is unenforceable, it will be reformed or severed without affecting the rest of the license. This license does not waive Nimble Co.’s legal privileges.

Required Attribution. Include in your product: “[Product Name] is an independent product published under the Nimble 3rd Party Creator License and is not affiliated with Nimble Co. Nimble © 2025 Nimble Co.”

LICENSE FAQ

Here’s a simple and straightforward explanation of what counts as "your original products" under the Nimble 3rd Party Creator License, with examples of what works and what doesn’t:

What Counts as "Your Original Products"

Things you make up that add new stuff to Nimble:

  • A New Adventure: Write your own story, like a treasure hunt in the Growling Marshes, using some of the existing regular or legendary monster stat blocks, with your own NPCs and challenges.
  • New Classes, Subclasses, Spell Schools, or Monsters: Create something like a "Way of Thunder" Zephyr subclass, that references the core Zephyr mechanics. "Shadow Bandit" monster that references the core bandit mechanics.
  • Tools for the community: A handy character builder, encounter building tools, etc. Those are great!

Basically: If it’s mostly your own ideas and just uses Nimble’s rules as a starting point, you're good!

What Does NOT Count

These are things that copy too much or don’t add enough new:

  • Copying Rules: Making a guide that just repeats information directly from the Core Rules, without adding your own twist or creativity.
  • Small Changes: Taking a Nimble class and simply renaming it without adding anything substantially new. That’s not enough.

TL;DR

Basically: If it’s mostly copying existing material, with little of your own new content, it doesn’t count.

  • Do: Make cool, new things that show off your ideas.
  • Don’t: Copy big chunks of Nimble’s books and pretend it’s your own product.

Focus on your own creativity, and you’re set to make and sell your own stuff with this license!

Feel free to email me evan@nimblerpg.com and let me know about it. I can't gauarantee anything but if it looks cool and I have time I'd love to help get the word out.

Probably not, sorry! A lot of people reach out to me and I just don't have the time to read everything people are making.

Of course! Have at it, feel free to let me know that as well, I'd love to show my support.
