Nimble is for Creators

Interested in creating content using the Nimble rules? Great! Nimble has a wide-open 3rd-party license that makes it easy to create your own homebrew content for your own table or even to sell (and keep all of your profits!).

Feel free to use the core system and any of the other content from Nimble that you like—the only caveat, you can’t use the game’s art or logo (but you can use one of the Nimble compatible badged on your product if you like), and the product you produce has to be your own and not simply a copy/paste of my work or anyone else’s. Add some value to the community!

See the full license below (it’s super short and written in plain language) and the accompanying FAQ. Any additional questions? Let me know evan@nimblerpg.com

Nimble 3rd Party Creator License v2.0

(updated December 9, 2025)

This license is perpetual and irrevocable except upon violation.

Terms. You may use and reference ANY published Nimble text (current or future) in your own original products based on or compatible with Nimble (e.g., adventures, classes, subclasses, monsters, supplements) without Nimble Co.'s prior approval and retain all profits.

Copying, restating, or summarizing large portions of text with little added content does not qualify as an original product.

You may not use the Nimble art or logo (but may use a Nimble compatibility logo (nimbleRPG.com/creators). Your product must not appear to be an official Nimble product or endorsed by Nimble Co.

Required Attribution. Include in your product: “[Product Name] is an independent product published under the Nimble 3rd Party Creator License. Nimble © Nimble Co.”

Online Apps and VTTs. For free online tools/wikis/apps/VTT implementations, you may use any and all published Nimble text, provided it is completely free to use (optional donations to defray development/hosting costs permitted) and you include this notice prominently (banner, sidebar, welcome message, etc.):

“This [app/tool/etc.] is free to use for anyone who already owns the content, is trying the system out, or cannot afford to buy it right now. If you enjoy Nimble and are able, please support the game by purchasing the official content at nimbleRPG.com.”

Restrictions and Rights Reserved. We are not liable for claims related to your product, and you will not bring legal claims against us. Unless explicitly stated, this license does not grant copyright, moral, publicity, privacy, patent, or trademark rights. All other rights are reserved by Nimble Co. Nimble is provided AS-IS without warranties.

Legal Terms. You agree to indemnify Nimble Co. and its affiliates from any claims or liabilities arising from your use of this license, mutually where applicable, as permitted by law. This license may be terminated if you violate its terms; upon termination, cease distribution until resolved. Governed by Florida law. Disputes resolved in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida or state courts in Orange County, Florida. Unenforceable provisions reformed or severed without affecting the rest. Does not waive Nimble Co.'s legal privileges.

LICENSE FAQ

Can you clarify "your original product"?

Here’s a simple and straightforward explanation of what counts as "your original products" under the Nimble 3rd Party Creator License, with examples of what works and what doesn’t:

What Counts as "Your Original Products"

Things you make up that add new stuff to Nimble, such as:

  • A New Adventure: Write your own story, like a treasure hunt in the Growling Marshes, using some of the existing regular or legendary monster stat blocks, with your own NPCs and challenges.
  • New Classes, Subclasses, Spell Schools, or Monsters: Create something like a "Way of Thunder" Zephyr subclass, that references the core Zephyr mechanics. "Shadow Bandit" monster that references the core bandit mechanics.
  • Tools for the community: A handy character builder, encounter building tools, etc. Those are great!

Basically: If it’s mostly your own ideas and just uses Nimble’s rules as a starting point, you're good!

What Does NOT Count

These are things that copy too much or don’t add enough new:

  • Copying Rules: Making a guide that just repeats information directly from the Core Rules, without adding your own new content or creativity.
  • Small Changes: Taking a Nimble class and simply renaming it without adding anything substantially new. That’s not enough.

TL;DR

Basically: If it’s mostly copying existing material, with little of your own new content, it doesn’t count.

  • Do: Make cool, new things that show off your ideas.
  • Don’t: Copy big chunks of Nimble’s books and pretend it’s your own product.
  • Focus on your own creativity, and you’re set to make and sell your own stuff with this license!

How can I let you know about a product I've made?

Feel free to email me evan@nimblerpg.com and let me know about it. I can't guarantee anything but if it looks cool and I have time I'd love to help get the word out.

Will you give me feedback on something I've made?

Probably not! It takes an incredible amount of time to do so, and I have precious little of that. Most of my best advice is already out there (e.g., Published Books, the Creator's Kit, Discord, Blog Posts, Live Streams).

However! I do occasionally run Design Jams for new content, if you're really interested in feedback that's the best place to start.

Can I do Livestreams or other content about Nimble?

Of course! Have at it, feel free to let me know that as well, I'd love to show my support.
